Getting Into the City
### From Capital Airport (PEK) The **Airport Express train** runs from Terminal 2 and Terminal 3 to Dongzhimen station in 25 minutes (¥25). From Dongzhimen, transfer to the subway to reach the city center. Taxis cost ¥100-130 and take 40-60 minutes.
### From Daxing Airport (PKX) The **Daxing Airport Express** reaches Caoqiao station in just 19 minutes (¥35), connecting to Line 10 for city access. A stunning architectural experience in itself — Daxing was designed by Zaha Hadid.
The 24-Hour Itinerary
### 07:00 – Tiananmen Square
Begin at **Tiananmen Square** for the morning atmosphere. The vast square is relatively uncrowded early in the morning, and the light is perfect for photography. Walk past the Monument to the People's Heroes and take in the scale of this iconic space.
### 08:30 – The Forbidden City
Enter the **Forbidden City** as soon as it opens at 8:30 AM. With limited time, focus on the central axis — the three Great Halls are the architectural highlights. Speed through to the Imperial Garden at the north end. Allow 2 hours for a focused visit.
### 10:30 – Jingshan Park Panorama
Exit north and immediately enter **Jingshan Park**. The 10-minute climb to the top rewards you with the definitive Forbidden City panorama — the view that graces a thousand postcards. Quick but absolutely essential.
### 11:30 – Hutong Walk & Lunch
Walk or take a short taxi ride to **Nanluoguxiang** for a hutong stroll and early lunch. Pop into a local noodle shop for zhajiangmian (Beijing-style noodles with soybean paste) or grab street food from the vendors lining the alley.
### 13:30 – National Museum of China
Return to Tiananmen Square for the **National Museum of China** on the eastern side. With free admission (passport required), even one hour here gives you access to priceless artifacts spanning 5,000 years. Focus on the Ancient China gallery for the most impressive pieces.
### 15:30 – Temple of Heaven
Take the subway to the **Temple of Heaven**. The iconic Hall of Prayer for Good Harvests is breathtaking in afternoon light. Walk through the park to see locals engaged in traditional activities — singing, dancing, and playing Chinese chess.
### 17:30 – Peking Duck Dinner
Head to **Quanjude** (Qianmen branch) or **Siji Minfu** for the quintessential Beijing meal. Watching a skilled chef carve your glistening roast duck tableside is a performance in itself. You haven't done Beijing until you've had Peking duck.
### 19:30 – Evening Options
If you still have energy, take a stroll along the illuminated Qianmen pedestrian street or explore **Beijing Fun (Beijingfang)** complex for shopping and rooftop views. Alternatively, head to **Houhai Lake** for lantern-lit lakeside bars and old-school Beijing atmosphere.
Luggage Storage
Both airports offer luggage storage services. Alternatively, if checking into a hotel, most will store bags before check-in and after check-out.
