Key Policy Rules
Universal Eligibility: Unlike the 144-hour or 240-hour visa-free transit which is restricted to 55 specific countries, the 24-hour transit policy applies to citizens of all foreign countries.
The "A → China → C" Rule: You must hold valid international travel documents and a confirmed onward international ticket (flight, ship, or train) departing within 24 hours to a third country or region (Region C cannot be the same as Region A).
Can I Leave the Airport? (Temporary Entry Permit)
The official rule states that travelers using the 24-hour visa-free transit will not leave the restricted areas of the ports. This means you are expected to stay inside the airport terminal for your connection.
However, if you have a long layover and do need to leave the designated restricted area (for example, to stay in a nearby hotel or meet someone), you must apply for a Temporary Entry Permit at the immigration inspection desk. Approval is at the discretion of the immigration officer based on your flight schedule and hotel bookings.

How to Apply at the Airport
If you are simply transiting without leaving the airport, look for the designated "24-Hour Direct Transit" channels. You will not need to pass through standard immigration.
If you need to leave the airport:
- Upon arrival, locate the "Visa-Free Transit" or "Temporary Entry Permit" desks before immigration.
- Fill out the blue Arrival Card for Temporary Entry.
- Present your passport, your onward ticket to Country C (departing within 24 hours), and your hotel reservation (if staying overnight).
- If approved, the officer will issue a Temporary Entry Permit sticker in your passport.
Have more than 24 hours?
If your passport is from one of the 55 eligible countries, you might qualify for the 240-hour (10 days) transit policy instead, giving you incredible freedom to travel across 24 provinces!
